All Volunteers Must Sign Up

To adhere to COVID related capacity limits for our space, all volunteers must sign up before arriving. You can sign up just before you arrive or far in advance! If you can no longer make your shift, please cancel online so that someone else can take your spot. If you want to check what sessions you have signed up for, you can check your sign-ups here.

First Time Volunteers - Please Arrive on Time

If you haven’t volunteered with us before, welcome! We hold volunteer orientations at the beginning of each session and ask that first-timers arrive on time so that we don’t have to train you separately. Don’t forget to sign up before you come!

Experienced Volunteers

We welcome back our veteran volunteers! Don’t forget to sign up before you come! Feel free to arrive at any time during the session.

Experienced volunteers are now welcome to sign up as Team Captains for the book room or dining room. If you want to learn more, reach out to volunteer@prisonbookprogram.org.

Book Drop off and Volunteer Hours


Hours:
Tuesdays 6:30-9:00 pm
Wednesdays 1:30-4:00 pm
Thursdays 6:30-9:00 pm
Saturdays 1:00-4:00 pm

Volunteers
must sign up in advance
either just before you come or weeks in advance.

Book Drop Offs
Books can be dropped off during volunteer hours. You do not need to sign up in advance, but check the sign up page to make sure we are open.

The most entertaining thing is the prisoners letters. They do have some odd requests that you can't help but smile at. The majority of the time you'll get requests for a dictionary. Reading is essential to some of these guys rehabilitation.

This is one of the best organizations to volunteer for... one is filled with a humbling feeling knowing one has made one man/woman spend one less lonesome afternoon alone with book in hand. Volunteer! You will not regret it.

This is a wonderful organization, which mails books upon request to prisoners across the country, many of whom have no one else who can send them reading materials. Books open the mind.
