Filmed inside California’s oldest state prison, 26.2 TO LIFE explores the transformative power of San Quentin’s 1000 Mile Club, in which incarcerated men train with volunteer coaches for a marathon: 105 laps around a dirt and concrete path circling the prison’s.lower yard yard. Through intimate access behind the walls of the infamous correctional facility, the film confronts the meaning of personal transformation within the greater crisis of the American carceral state.
Markelle Taylor, who will be participating in the post screening Q&A with the director, is one of the formerly incarcerated members of the club whom we followed to run in the race of his dreams – the Boston Marathon, just six weeks after he was released from almost 18 years in prison.
