The Color Purple

By Alice Walker

“The Color Purple” is my favorite book because the author wrote it in such a way that it drew me in as if I were the character. A young woman was impregnated twice by a family member and then cruelly separated from her children. She would then be forced to marry an abusive man who beat her and separated her from the only person on Earth who loved her, her sister. I learned about self-worth, perseverance, and hope. It forced me to accept that many women are abused but can survive. I found the book hugely entertaining as I cried, laughed, and embraced the concept of forgiveness.
