Prisons We Do Not Serve
Please check our "Prisons We Do Not Serve" list before sending in your request to ensure that we can send books to your loved one. |
How PBP Works:
- The books are a free gift to the person receiving them. They do not need to be returned to the Prison Book Program.
- There is no charge for sending books. Donations to support our program are greatly appreciated but not required.
- PBP works to fill book requests as quickly as possible, however we often have a 3-6 month backlog. We understand how eager you are, but please be patient with us. Requests are filled in the order received.
- Each prisoner is limited to two book shipments per year. Please do not write us more than once every six months or have multiple people send in additional requests. Additional requests will be ignored.
- We provide books to individual prisoners. We do not provide books to libraries or to administrators.
- We do not have a catalog, offer pen-pal services, or maintain a mailing list.
- We do not send books to: California, Maryland, Michigan, Nevada, Texas, and a few individual prisons.
- All requests must be mailed to us. We do not accept book requests by email or phone.
Books Available:
- The books we provide are donated by many generous individuals and organizations. What is available varies and depends on what we have in stock when we fill the request.
- Prison Book Program rarely has Bibles or books on: real estate, small business start-up, chess, drawing, almanacs, Spanish/English or medical dictionaries, GLBT, large print (of any kind) or westerns. Go ahead and request them as the person may get lucky, but please provide other alternatives.
- We almost never have books on Wiccan spirituality, Freemasonry, urban fiction or legal dictionaries.
- Only one dictionary request per person per year will be honored.
- Our free 6-page National Prisoner Resource List and 40-page “We the People” legal primer are available upon request only. Both resources are also available on this website for you to print and mail to the person inside.
