Prison Book Program (PBP) has many volunteers who donate their time and effort in person -- and there are many more who wish they could. But even if you don't live in the Boston area, you can still help PBP, and the prisoners we serve, by hosting a fundraiser in your community.
Whether you host a dictionary drive, a fundraiser, or another event, we know that the personalization and creativity you bring to your event will go a long way toward educating people about both PBP and our mission to provide free books to individual prisoners in the United States.
One example of this creativity is the unique fundraiser held by Dr. B.C. Biermann of California Baptist University. Dr. Biermann pledged to grow a beard for 90 days and convinced friends, students and colleagues to pledge money for each day he stuck with it. All together, he raised over $300 for the Prison Book Program - enough to send books to more than 100 people!
With help from your fundraiser, Prison Book Program can provide even more free books to people in prison who are taking the initiative to educate themselves and improve their literacy skills, employment skills, and life skills – skills which they recognize as necessary to reach their goal of contributing to, and better communicating with, their community and the world around them.
On this page, you will find event kits, flyers, and other documents that will make it easy for you to further support PBP. Each event kit contains materials you can use to host a fundraiser or event of your choice, at your convenience, from wherever you may be. Simply download the kit and a flyer, fill in a few blanks, and you will have what you need to get started.
